Keikkaviikonloppu

Syyskuun puoleen väliin osui yksi oikein keikkojen täyteinen viikonloppu. Mietin jo Rovaniemeltä lähtiessä, että miten tästä oikein selvitään hereillä ja hengissä. Keikat kun yleensä Suomessa alkavat hyvin myöhään illasta ja odottelemista yleensä piisaa. Saatikka sitten useana iltana putkeen.

There was weekend full of gigs in the middle of September. Already when I left from Rovaniemi I was wondering how I am going to make through the weekend alive and awake. Normally gigs in Finland start very late in the evening and there's a lot of waiting. Not to mention few nights in a row.

Onneksi aloitusaikatauluissa on myös poikkeuksia! Suunnistimme ensin perjantaina alkuillasta katsomaan Jex Thothia Nuclear Nightclubiin jossa soitto alkoi jo 21.00. Herranjumala mikä keikka! Olen pari kertaa kuunnellut Jex Thothia levyltä ja voin sanoa, ettei kannata edes vaivautua, vaan raahata takamuksensa keikalle suoraan. Laulajalla oli aivan uskomaton lavakarisma ja useiden "aika basic" - keikkojen jälkeen oli mukava yllättyä vaihteeksi iloisesti.

Luckily there are also exceptions! On Friday we headed to Nuclear Nightclub to see Jex Thoth's gig that started already 9pm. And oh my god what a gig it was! I have listened Jex Thoth few times from Spotify and I can tell that you should not bother. Go straight to see a gig. The singer has the most amazing stage charisma and after seeing quite few "basic gigs" it was a nice variety to see something worth watching.

Nuclear Nightclubissa jatkui Jex Thothin keikan jälkeen ilta Kolmannen ilmestyksen keikalla sekä Herr Emil's SHOCK Circuksen esityksellä. Miteltiin taas jo aika totutuilla mies vs. niittipyssy, sekä mies vs. lasinsirut systeemeillä. Kirveillä jongleeraamisessa oli jotain uutta omille silmille. Muut temput olivatkin jo aika nähtyjä muissakin sideshow esityksissä aiemmin käyneenä.

After the Jex Thoth gig there was another gig by Kolmas ilmestys and also a sideshow act from Herr Emil's SHOCK Circus. There was again some battles man versus staple gun and man versus shards of glass etc. The juggling with axes was something new for me and all the other acts I have seen quite often with other sideshows before.

Lauantaina taas oli vuorossa rovaniemeläisen Syöverin sekä taivalkoskelaisen Temorin keikat Hevimestassa. Ei muuta kuin roudaustiimiin mukaan ja kamat soundcheckiä varten valmiiksi odottelemaan iltaa.

On Saturday there were two gigs at Hevimesta with Syöveri from Rovaniemi and with Temor from Taivalkoski. I was acting as a roadie with the band and watching the soundcheck before the show.

Temorin poikien kanssa syömässä ja kuuntelemassa sivusta settilistasuunnitelmia suodatinpaperille riipusteltuna ennen keikkaa. Koska silleen se rokkailu toimii.

We went to eat with Temor before the gig and I listened the conversation that battled with the setlist of the evening. Written of course on a filter paper. Because that's how rock and roll works like.

Ja keikathan menivät molemmilta yhtyeiltä oikein kivasti, ilo oli seurata sekä huomata, että Oulun viikonlopun keikkojen ylitarjonnasta huolimatta paikalle eksyi ihmisiäkin. Katselimme alkuillasta, että melkein joka kuppilassa ja kantabaarissa oli jotain musiikillista äksöniä tarjolla. Sehän on kiva, vielä kun keikoilla käyviä ihmisiäkin riittäisi tarpeeksi.

Both bands played really well and it was a pleasure to notice that even though Oulu had a lot of gigs held at that weekend, there were people at the bar to see the shows. We checked the gigs for that night before hand and almost every single bar had some kind of a performer or a band playing. It's nice that people have options but I hope that there is enough people to see every show when there are so many happenings at just one night.
